How does Payment Txn Chargebacks work?

Since 11.5 release, Payments2Us supports Chargebacks for Stripe and EziDebit Payment Gateways.

A chargeback (a.k.a dispute) occurs when a donor/payee questions/requests to reverse your payment with their card issuer. The Payment is reversed and a dispute fees is also applied by the payment gateway.

Refer to the following articles to learn how Chargebacks are processed by the Payment Gateways:

General Behaviour

  •  A Chargeback Payment Txn is created when a dispute is lost, and the amount is reversed to the donor.
  • The Chargeback Txn Amount includes the applicable chargeback penalty fees applied by the Payment Gateway.
  • Chargeback Payment Txns have the Record Type, Transaction Source and Transaction Type of Chargeback.
  • Chargeback Txns can be found under the Refunds/Chargeback Txn's related list on the primary Payment Txn.

Stripe SCA Chargebacks

Stripe Chargebacks Webhook Event Setup

For stripe chargebacks to work with Payments2Us, you need to ensure the charege.dispute.lost event has been selected on the webhook. Please review Stripe Webhook Setup on How to setup Stripe help article for step-by-step instructions..

A Chargeback Payment Txn is created automatically in Payments2Us when a transaction's chargeback process is closed and lost in Stripe. This indicates that the dispute has been finalized, the payment has been officially reversed to the donor/payee, and an additional dispute fee has been incurred.

For further details, please review Stripe gateway documentation on handling disputes.

EziDebit Chargebacks

Beta Feature Notice

EziDebit Chargebacks are currently in Beta and are disabled by default. You can manually enable EziDebit Chargebacks by setting the custom label DisableEziDebitChargebackTxns to false.

A Chargeback Payment Txn is created automatically in Salesforce as part of the daily Recurring Payments Processor. During the EziDebit automatic reconciliation process, the system actively checks for any recent Chargeback Txns directly within EziDebit. If a closed and lost chargeback transaction is identified, Payments2Us automatically generates a corresponding Chargeback Payment Txn record and associates it with the original payment Txn.
